BOOK’S THAT DON’T COME WITH A TEST AT THE END

If you’re a college student, like myself, than you’re coming real close to a nice, well needed, Christmas break. Maybe that break is being spent all day on the couch, or perhaps it’s spent working double shifts because your boss doesn’t know the meaning of a “vacation.” However you’re spending your break off of school, you’re bound to come across some free time. This is the perfect season to turn on Netflix and snuggle with your blanket, or you can put down the remote and pick up a book; because let’s face it you’re an adult now and that’s what adults do for fun.

Over the years I’ve noticed I’m a memoir person when it comes to reading. I enjoy hearing life stories, especially when their told by really funny people. Here are just some of the books I’ve enjoyed and few more I hope to add to that list.

BILL HADER AND KRISTEN WIIG’S FRIENDSHIP TO ENVY

Buzzfeed recently posted the gag reel from The Skeleton Twins DVD. The DVD doesn’t come out until Dec. 2, but Buzzfeed News were able to get their hands on the exclusive clips. Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig were two of my favorites from SNL. They are both incredibly funny on their own, but together it hurts your stomach to watch. However, laughing that hard provides a nice little ab workout. The two have a type of humor that harmonizes well with one another and it just very entertaining to watch.

THE “MOTHERFUNNY” WOMEN IN COMEDY

Thanksgiving is next week and I couldn’t be more excited. I’m in love with the fact that there is a Holiday designed for Americans to just eat. That probably isn’t technically correct, but I see a free pass to be a glutton one day of the year and I am going to use it. This year, our family decided to just have separate Thanksgivings. I can’t really blame them since nobody enjoys a drive home with a food baby ready to bust buttons. However, this new every-household-for-themselves tradition has got me pretty nervous. This household, my household, has somewhat of an unfair advantage. My home contains one mom with two adult children who cannot cook.

The hardest working woman I will ever know, my mom

Of course my mom is totally calm about the whole thing, and her confidence always reassures me. Somehow she knows that Thanksgiving dinner is going to be ready at 5 p.m. sharp, with sides beautifully prepared, and a turkey cooked to perfection. It will all be done thanks to that freaky mom force that makes Superman look inadequate. You know, the same force that could get you fed, groomed, and ready for school in 20 min. The same amount of time it now takes me to just get out of bed.

FOO FIGHTERS ARE THE ROCK STARS OF MUSIC AND COMEDY

Foo Fighters have been celebrating their 20th anniversary this year. They did so by putting out a new album, Sonic Highways, which coincided with their HBO documentary series and they have just announced their 2015 North American tourIn an ever-changing music industry dominated by pop they continue to inspire and push out successful rock albums.

Their 11 Grammys must be rewarding but insignificant compared to their pure love and joy they have for music, which is why they continue to stick around an industry that favors everything young and new.

MAKING FUNNY MUSIC SURE SEEMS FUN (NY)

Some people get lucky that what they love doing as a hobby can turn into a full time job. I would say that was true for artists such as The Lonely Island, Weird Al, and Flight of the Conchords. Music is not the most typical way to make it in comedy, which is why most of these artists were just doing it for fun and completely unaware of where it would take them. As much as I love music, and as much as I love comedy, I’d prefer to see Coldplay at The Forum and not at The Laugh Factory. That being said, I’d have to admit that there have been exceptions.

FATE KNEW BILL HADER BELONGED IN COMEDY

From Aykroyd, Murray, to Murphy, I thank Saturday Night Live for launching the many careers in comedy it did. The most recent member to be added among them is Bill Hader. Hader may not have the reputation, yet, to rival the legends, however, he has proven himself worthy.

THOSE WHO WERE BORN TO FAIL

If you’re a comedian whose in need of some encouragement go ahead and type in the words “worst I ever bombed” into YouTube. In fact, you don’t have to be a comedian to enjoy these stories uploaded by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. For a comedian to “bomb” they simply are not doing their job too well, and the lack of laughs are “not” there to prove it. That has to be my favorite part about comedy, for it can either be the most rewarding or disappointing job.

JAN HOOKS, FOR THE KIDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE 90’s

Being born the year I did comes with some disadvantages. For instance The Kardashians are going on their 10th season next year, which means that my generation has elected Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney Kardashian as our TV stars. Lets take it back to 1986 where it was Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Mike Myers, Nora Dunn, and Jan Hooks who ruled TV. You know how I know they ruled, because of how much the world mourns when one has passed.

DAVE CHAPPELLE’S REJECTION TURNED INTO A SUCCESSFUL DIRECTION

It’s always exciting when you hear that some of the best comedians out there experienced the most rejection. Dave Chappelle not only had to work his way up in stand-up, but he also worked pretty hard on his acting resume, a typical outcome for those who graduate from a performing arts high school.

Chappelle’s ambition started early on, around 14, when he decided that he wanted to be a comedian. He was so focused on making that dream reality that he is the one who sought out art school. He was the one who asked to be driven to comedy clubs performing at open mics.
